Drive it Day 2015 – Ampfield to Hinton Ampner
A day to celebrate, drive and display great cars with other car lovers.
The Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs Drive it Day encourages members of the 500 clubs who support the FBHVC, plus other historic vehicle enthusiasts to use yesterday’s two, three, four or more wheeled vehicles for a day to celebrate the UK’s transport heritage at its finest.
Every year Drive it Day is purposefully held on the Sunday nearest to the 23rd April. The reason being, because it commemorates the 64 cars that left London on the first day of The Thousand Mile Trial of 1900. A landmark journey was made to test the potential of new invention. The Royal Automobile Club Thousand Mile Trial started in London and passed through Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, travelled through Scotland and then passed through more English locations until they were back in London again.
Every year many events are organised to take place all over Britain for Drive it Day, ranging from planned drives to car shows.
As members of The New Forest Austin Healey Club we will be hopefully joining them on a planned drive from Ampfield to Hinton Ampner. The plan is for club members to meet in their Austin Healey at The Potters Heron, near Romsey, SO51 9ZF, for coffee at 10.30am, leave about 11.00am for a 35 mile run around the Hampshire lanes to end up at Hinton Ampner NT for a wander around the beautiful gardens and a snack lunch in their cafe. The aim is to get as many Healeys together as we can, if you are interested in joining this event and/or The Austin Healey Club please contact jim Finch jandj@nfahc.co.uk
