Austin Healey 100S Recreation
Early in 2012 Bill Rawles Classic Cars was approached and commissioned to embark on a very special and exciting project – An Austin Healey 100S recreation. In the 1950s, as a result of achieving numerous race and speed records, Donald Healey and Caroll Shelby developed the Austin Healey 100S model, where the ’S’ stands for sebring. The cars were produced at the Healey Warwick factory, mainly painted in American racing colours, white and blue and with the main purpose competing in racing and rallying events, such as Le Mans, Mille Miglia and Sebring. The exact number produced of this model is not known but it is believed to be around 50+ cars and today these cars are still as popular, loved and highly sort after, commanding a high market value.
The project we undertook started in April 2012 and nearly 18 months on we have created the body and tub using over 650 solid rivets which are holding the inner structure together. The chassis has been lightened and strengthened as per the original Austin Healey 100S model. The engine is ready for fitting, all suspension and running gear is ready for assembly and the fuel tank is fitted.
With the roll hoop under construction and the paintwork scheduled, the next stage will be the cars assembly.
