The Castle Combe Autumn Classic – Saturday 03rd October 2015
Jack Rawles first time out racing a Healey
This is the fourth year of this very special event. Described as low key and informal but very well attended. It captures the essence of early club racing, held on former WWII airfields such as Silverstone, Goodwood and Snetterton from the late forties.
For 2015 the event is to be held on the Saturday with grids of VSCC Pre-War Sports Cars, Formula 3 500s, Formula Juniors, FIS Car 50’s Intermarque, Pe-1966 Jaguars, Historic Aston Martins, The Terry Sanger Memorial Historic Saloon Car Race and The Healey Driver International 25th Anniversary Invitation Challenge Race
The Healey grid is looking healthy with entrants from all over the UK and some of our European drivers too. The Healeys are fast, furious and never fail to please the crowd . The sight of 20 plus Healeys roaring off the grid start line is always a sight and sound to be remembered.
The Healeys have a 40 minute race in two heats of 20 minutes each. Two driver is optional and there is no pit stop this year.
Bill Rawles has raced in this event over a number of years, formerly sharing the driver with Mark Potter and last year with Mark Dunn. But this year 18 year old Jack Rawles will be naking his maiden race with his Dad Bill Rawles. Having spent his life travelling around UK and European race circuits with Bill, watching and supporting his Dad, it is now Jacks turn to race the very car that has inspired him to race cars since he was 14 years old.

And if you are coming along to this event please do come and find us in the Paddock area, we can promise you a chat and maybe a drink but we cannot promise any podium positions – well not this year and not from Team Rawles but maybe from David Grace in his British Racing Green Austin Healey 3000 MKI 3020 UE – which was built by Bill Rawles a number of years ago and Bill has been helping David to get ready for this years event. Last Year David Grace and Anders Schildt brought home the Silverware.
