UK RHD Austin Healey 3000 MKIII
Built in 1964, this Austin-Healey 3000 MKIII was dispatched to Birmingham, UK in RHD, one of around 1,100 RHD BJ8 home market cars from the total of 17,500 built and primarily dispatched overseas.
Originally black with red interior, AOK 180B was restored and repainted in British racing green. Some photos of the restoration are supplied with the car and these look to be around the late 1980’s/ early 1990’s but an exact date is hard to confirm.
The car has a large history file supplied with the car includes a heritage certificate and numerous receipts with past MOT certificates dating back to 1990.
As you see the car today, it presents well and drives nicely, the engine bay is very clean and tidy, and it represents good value priced in the mid £40k’s for a UK RHD car which is ready to be enjoyed. As a ‘cross over’ phase 1, this MK3 features single side lights, apposed to the later twin sidelight models. However, it still benefits from wind up windows, locking doors and pop up hood which popularises the MK3.
On the road, AOK 180Bhas good road holding and overdrive fitted which operates well. The vehicle was driven a fair distance to be delivered for sale so whilst this isn’t a car we have serviced and maintained, it looks to be in fair condition and in reliable shape.
If you are looking to improve this 3000, it would benefit from some attention to the interior and potentially a new hood and whilst both items are perfectly usable, this car could be improved by small individual projects which can be completed whilst the car is still in use and provides some scope to further improve value.
